Changing of the Guard

It is week five of the special Q caregivers. Katharine and I both consider ourselves pretty lucky to have had such wonderful help from family and friends who are able to and willing to stay with Q while we finish up the school year. (THIS WEEK!!! 4 DAYS!!!!)

Q's Aunt Liz spent last week with him, and he really loved it. I've never seen a baby "make eyes" at someone before, but Q was definitely "making eyes" at his Aunt.

Grandpa Roy was down for the Memorial Day weekend when we got Q's feet in the pool water. When it heats up even more, we will get him in all the way. He likes baths and has rested his head back in the water there, so we are hoping that skill translates into the pool too. You can't see it from the picture, but Grandpa stayed on Tuesday and worked outside, helping mulch the back garden - our family is so great.

Grandma MJ had lots of fun playing with the little dude and helping Katharine get the puzzle finished up. Plus, in her excellent shopping prowess, she found frames for the prints my Dad had brought for Q, so those need to get hung now too.

When Fossil and Mossil were down, Fossil installed the shelves (among several other projects) for the QRS initial letters he had found. We added the actual fossil and the Jeep to the shelves: very manly.

This final week Jenni, a good friend, is braving the newest venture - the yet-to-emerge-teeth. We are 99% sure he is "pre-teething": lots of drool and a lot more fussing than we have been used to. He has enjoyed chewing on the teething ring and enjoys when you rub his lower gums. We will be sure to update if anything pops out. We know that Jenni will do great loving on him, even if he isn't as happy as he has been these past few weeks.

3 Month Birthday

3 Months ago little Q was quite a bit smaller than he is today.
Using the wii, and weighing him with his (clean) diaper and a onesie, he was 16 pounds and 1 ounce. All that is packed into 25 inches of Quinlan height.

This photo was from the 2 month birthday for comparison's sake.

The new, 3 month photo is here. Look at those legs stretch out.

Growing and changing

It's been several busy weeks since Katharine returned to school, while we've enjoyed the visits from family and prepare for summer. :)
There have been many changes - Q has been smiling lots and lots, and when he is really happy, he babbles up a storm. We're not sure what he is saying yet, but I'm sure he has a lot that he is trying to communicate to us.

He has been having awesome days hanging out with his grandparents. He had a week with Pops and Nona Stina (Jared's Dad and his wife),

a week with Mossil and Fossil (Jared's Mom and her husband),

and is hanging this week with Grandma MJ, waiting for Grandpa Roy to come down this weekend (Katharine's parents.) He has such fun days, hanging out with his grandparents.

Meals have been fun - Q often watches intently as people chew their food. He isn't be given anything to chew, but he obviously thinks he is ready--he likes to emulate chewing when he sees it.
Just like pre-chewing, he is also in pre-crawling stages. When given time to hang out in his tunnel, he is really moving around a lot, not flipping over, but reorienting himself into a different direction. If you look at the pictures closely, you can see how he manages to get his little legs from one side of the tunnel to the other. Plus, you can see his awesome skull and crossbones outfit - he is way trendier than I could ever imagine being (Aunty Jenni buys the coolest clothes!). :) In the pictures you can see how he moved from the left of the tunnel towards the center.

We are waiting for our exciting summertime venture of trying out the pool. So far, he has enjoyed bathing in the larger "ducky" tub and is okay with his head being back in the water. Katharine is hoping we have a swimmer.

As the school year winds down, I will work on my updating habits and try to keep better records of our little man as he keeps on changing.

10%

We weighed Q again - happily using the Wii balance board and the Wii fit program's fitness assessment. (No - we will not allow hm to play copious amounts of video games, the poor boy will be very maladjusted.) We found out that he is now just about 10% of his Daddy. We do weigh him at home (with the extra few ounces his diaper and onesie add), where at the doctor they do it in the buff. The little behemoth is now a whopping 15 pounds - just under 10% of Jared's fighting weight, before dinner.

He is surviving life at home without Katharine, who is back at school. We are very lucky to only have (at most...maybe less) 22 days left with students. We are even luckier to have generous family and friends traveling to stay with him. Our friend, Joyce, took day one last Thursday and said it was a breeze. I was thrilled to stay home on Friday with him (we did a vaccination shot and hung out with the neighbors since the pounding of the new roof installation was a little annoying). Today was day one with Strega Nona 'Stina and "Pops" AKA Grandpa Rick. Q had a ball, as you can seen in Pops' photos of him. Plus Pops is bringing some A+ cooking with him, and I love the fact that he took planning, shopping, cooking and even cleaning under his charge. Hmmm....food. Q watched longingly as we ate a delicious lentil stew tonight.
