Every parent claims that they have a smart child. Of course I think Q is smart, but more than just thinking it, I am always amazed when I watch him figure out something new. The other day he was in his tunnel, moving back and forth in it. He often pulls himself through and then does a u-turn to come back the other way. Anyway, at the top of the tunnel there are little toys that hang down that can't reach. He was really trying and was making little exasperated noises at his failure to reach them. He kept trying from different approaches and finally started pushing the sides of the tunnel. He made a final effort and flipped the tunnel onto its side. Quinlan was very pleased with himself to get to the hanging toys, which were now at an easy to reach level.
I wish I had the video camera on to catch this. Katharine did get some photos after the fact. The successful effort made him smile.
You can see the apple that is right at his hip, which is one of the little toys attached to the ceiling of his tunnel that he wanted to eat.
Tuesday was the first day of fall, and after a summer in Austin that was one day short of tying the record for most triple-digit degree-days ever, we really have started fall off quite coolly. Q had to break out the warmer clothes to be comfortable, and of course, he looked quite cute.
Q is very excited about a visit from his Mossil this week, though it will mean he will miss his friends at daycare and won't be able to steal anyone's animal crackers. Yes, this week Q had his first "solid" food, quite inadvertently when he snatched a cracker from another tyke's leftovers. He then hid part of it from Andria, who took it away and was amazed to see he still had some to gnaw on. That's my little boy, food lover and cracker stealer.
